The Five Precepts - Another Tool For Avoiding Suffering
#1
Rainbow
These five Precepts, inspired by those of Buddhism and other Eastern traditions, are meant as guidelines for daily practice and cultivation. They are not "commandments," but rather suggestions for avoiding trouble. Their purpose is to protect us from the consequences of not behaving in a moral/ethical manner. They are very simple, but require dedication and commitment to master.

1. Don't be violent.

2. Practice honesty.

3. No sex misconduct.

4. Avoid harsh speech.

5. Don't take intoxicants.

In this thread, we will explore more about how these Precepts can be applied to not only the problem of addiction, but also of transforming our often self-centered approach to life, and getting along better in the world as a whole.
